Senior Mechanical Engineer Power Electronics (f/m/d)

Your responsibilities

  • Prepare innovative own designs from specifications and create drawings and assembly details in 3D CAD for medium voltage converters (especially for water cooled units), indoor and outdoor cabinets, containers, etc.
  • Sizing, calculation and specification of other mechanical equipment (pumps, heating, compressors, fans, auxiliary systems, etc.)
  • Provide well thought out practical engineering solutions to stack design, troubleshooting and identifying issues affecting cost and reliability before and after installation 
  • Actively plan and lead mechanical project engineering and design activities to meet objectives agreed with supervisor for timescale, cost estimate and technical performance
  • Preparation of BoM (bill of materials) for all of the components and tracking the updates
  • Work with suppliers to produce production quality components
  • Preparation of technical design reports, drawings and specifications
  • Writing test specifications (routine test, type test) for mechanical tests based on standards
  • Preparation of plant manuals (service and maintenance and how to use tools etc.)

Your profile

  • PhD or MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Successful working experience in power electronics converters and the surrounding system components design and development
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD; SolidEdge, SolidWorks)
  • Experience of mechanical design within electronics assemblies with an appreciation for thermal, vibration and EMC management
  • Good understanding of electromechanical components (sensors, fans, pumps, valves, pressure transducers and thermocouples, etc)
  • Innovative mindset and be capable of considering new converter elements, materials and manufacturing techniques and their applications
  • Good knowledge of material costs and delivery time
  • Application of IEEE/IEC/EN standards (vibration, degrees of protection, mechanical structures for electronic equipment, etc.) to the mechanical designs
  • Good understanding of grounding, shielding, insulation and coordination and EMC along with tolerance analysis
  • Familiarity with hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Being capable of working both independently and in a team
  • Ability to carry out root-cause analysis
  • Advanced English language skills, additional German skills are a plus
